Adepoju Dont Judge Super Eagles By Latest Fifa Ranking

Former Nigerian midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju says the latest FIFA rankings of the Super Eagles don’t reflect the true performance of the team.

On Thursday, the three-time African champions dropped one spot in the latest global FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body.

Gernot Rohr’s side accrued a total of 1474 points to move 36th place and remain as the fifth-best team on the continent behind Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco.

In a chat with Completesports, the ‘Headmaster’ as he was fondly called during his playing days, said that Nigeria’s latest ranking doesn’t change anything about the team.

He revealed that the forthcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho will truly determine the position of the team in the next FIFA rankings.

“You can’t really judge the Super Eagles because of the fact that they dropped one place from 35 to 36 place in the latest FIFA rankings.

“Mind you, the team only played few games in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic. So it will be wrong to base judgment on the team or Gernot Rohr.

“The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho will go a long way to judge the performance of the team in the next FIFA rankings.”
