Cleric Dies Days After Attack By Hoodlums In Delta Community

A cleric, Pastor Sylvester Yerinbide has been reported dead days after he was allegedly attacked by hoodlums in Aladja Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The death of the cleric was announced on social media by some Ijaw indigenes.

The Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC in Ogbe-Ijoh Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Comrade Akemotubo Victor said assailants from Aladja community attacked and killed the cleric.

Victor expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident just as he condemned the act.

He urged the Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to fish out the criminals and make them face the wrath of the law.

According to him, “We call on the Delta State Government and security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators of these dastardly acts to justice.”

While noting that the people of the Ogbe-Ijoh community have been victims of “quiet perpetual” attacks, Victor said it is either buildings in Ogbe-Ijoh were set ablaze or their people were attacked and sometimes killed.

“We are not cowards. We are being pushed to the wall and heaven will not fall if we retaliate,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Aladja Community Vigilante Chairman, Comrade Bezi Ighotegwolor has reacted on behalf of his community.

He said, “it is not true that assailants from Aladja community killed Sylvester.

“Who saw them and how did the person know they were from Aladja community? Was it Sylvester who told IYC?

“Aladja community is denying complicity and therefore calls on the Government and security agencies to carry out an autopsy on the dead.”
