OVERVIEW OF: Jamal Musiala Opts To play for Germany Over England
Jamal Musiala has decided to pledge his international football allegiance with Germany.
The Bayern Munich star, 17, was born in Germany but raised in England, attending primary and secondary schools in London. Musiala also played in Chelsea‘s academy between 2011-19.
In 2019, Bayern Munich snapped up the then 16-year-old who made his debut a year later, becoming the youngest footballer to play for the club in the Bundesliga.
Musiala’s rapid rise has continued into this season and he has scored four goals in an impressive 27 appearances in all competitions.
One of those starts and goals came in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Bayern Munich swept away Lazio in the knockout round first leg with Musiala grabbing his side’s second goal in a 4-1 win.
And despite representing England from U15 through to the U21s the midfielder has now made the decision to pledge his senior international career to Germany.
“I’ve thought about this question a lot,” he told The Athletic.
“What is best for my future? Where do I have more chances to play?
“In the end, I just listened to the feeling that over a long period of time kept telling me that it was the right decision to play for Germany, the land I was born in.
“Still, it wasn’t an easy decision for me.”
