Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Ayodeji Balogun better known as Wizkid has won two Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards.

The ‘Essence’ crooner was awarded the MOBO Best International Act and Best African Music Act in the event that was held at Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry, England.

The ceremony, streamed on YouTube Live, was hosted by multi-platinum-selling artist and actress, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and comedian and broadcaster, Munya Chawawa.

The two new awards increased Wizkid’s trophies at the MOBO to five.

“Two awards in one night for @wizkidayo. Congratulations on winning Best International Act,” said MOBO on its Instagram page.

For the Best International Act category, Wizkid was nominated alongside Doja Cat, Drake, Kanye West, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, Polo G, Rema, and Skillibeng.

Wizkid was up against Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, CKay, Davido, King Promise, NSG, Rema, Tems, and Tiwa Savage in the Best African Music Act category.

MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin, also known as the MOBOs) are an annual British music award presentation honoring achievements in “music of black origin”, including hip hop, grime, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music.

Singer Tiwa Savage was among the music stars who showed up at the award ceremony.

However, many of the winners were absent – including Wizkid and Dave, who won the best album of the year.

Highlights of the ceremony will be screened on BBC One on Wednesday, 8 December at 22:35 GMT, along with previously unseen backstage footage.
